Such a little fighter!

Zane likes to fight his blanket.  He grunts and squirms and his face turns all red until he can get an arm up and out of his blanket.  It shouldn't be a big deal, but he's a wild little guy and when he stirs in his sleep, he hits himself in the face, waking himself up!  He also has trouble with his pacifier.  He falls asleep, loses it, then wakes up searching for it!  This morning, I ended up putting him in the vibrating chair in hopes that he would fall back to sleep.  He did.  The arm hasn't woken him...yet.

Grins!

This morning after Zane had his breakfast, I played a tickle game with him and got the first grins!  It wasn't just one grin, it was a bunch!  Every time I ran my fingers up his ribs and tickled his chin, I got a grin!  I hope it continues.  It was so much fun to see him responding.  He also is really looking around and keeping his head up when he is getting burped!

Jeff weighed him on Friday when he turned 4 weeks old and he weighed 10 pounds, 9 ounces!  I'm so happy he's growing!

Zane also did great at church yesterday.  I am always relieved when he is easily pacified there and goes to sleep.  One nice lady last night said he was such a good baby...I said, well, one of these days you'll say, "Oh, that's what he sounds like!"  :-)  I know the day is coming, but until then, I guess we'll enjoy these kind of Sundays!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
Love,
Amy

Snuggles

4 Weeks Old!

He's a Walmart Shopper!

This snoozing lasted about halfway though the trip, then he had to be carried.  That was interesting!  Thank you to the wal-mart employee who helped me unload my cart at the checkout!

Dishwasher Repair Man!

Our dishwasher stopped getting the dishes clean a few days ago-at least that's when I noticed, so I started washing them by hand and we started talking about getting a new one.  A few nights go, Jeff decided to look at it and started taking it apart.  He discovered that the filter at the bottom was completely clogged and wouldn't allow water to run through!  He ended up cleaning the whole dishwasher and now it works just like a new one!  Now, if you come and pay us a visit, you'll get to eat off clean plates! :-)

Success!

We have had Zane sleeping in our room in his pack n' play since we brought him home because I was so worried that something would happen to him if he was away from us.  Well, it has been hard to sleep because he makes lots of croaking, squeaking, and other various noises when he sleeps.  Most of the time, I end up checking on him only to find his eyes closed and him asleep.  Last night we decided it was time to have him sleep in his own room.  The doctor recommended putting something under the mattress to angle it slightly to help with keeping his food down and so, at 3 weeks and 4 days old, he slept for the first time in his crib!  And it was great!  We have a video monitor in the room, so I was able to see him in our room and hear him.  I heard him at 2:30, went and fed him, put him to sleep again by 3:30, and while he did make a few noises after that, we both went back to sleep!  He woke up again at 7!  I am so happy that it was a successful night.  I thought I might end up sleeping in his room on the guest bed, but it didn't turn out that way!
He looked so little in his big crib!

Checking it out!

These next two pictures were taken at supper yesterday.  He was cold, so Jeff wrapped him loosely in a blanket and he just looked so cute, I had to take a picture!

Bed ready!

I decided to try giving the little feller his bath early tonight!  We'll see how that effects his bedtime later!  I just love his combed hair.  :)  It smells good too!

Not too sure about this business!
Happy in his vibrating chair!

Happiness!

Ahhhh!  Sometimes you are just so happy and thankful.  I just have to brag on my wonderful Jeff.  I tell you what, motherhood is hard.  The hardest thing I've encountered is not getting enough sleep!  After a while, it wears on a soul.  Yesterday after church services, Jeff cleaned up the dishes, and sent me to bed to sleep.  I got to sleep for three hours!  It's amazing how your outlook can be more positive after some rest.  But it doesn't end there!  After evening services, he cleaned up supper AGAIN, and when I came out of the shower, he had Zane and was giving him a bath!  It was so nice.  He takes such good care of us, and I am so thankful for him!  I hope everyone has someone in their life that makes them laugh and smile like Jeff does for me!
My two joys.

3 weeks old!

Today our little Zane is 3 weeks old!  We got to go for a check up too and I was so pleased.  He is a very healthy baby.  He weighs 9 pounds, 13 ounces, and in the past two weeks, he's grown a whole inch!  He is 22 1/2 inches long!  I didn't know that was possible, but I guess it is.  Everything is looking good on him.  I am learning so much.  I didn't have a clue about babies, but our pediatrician is so nice and talked about several changes that may happen in the next couple weeks so that I wouldn't be alarmed.  Zane did okay for some of the time, and he cried rather loudly for the rest of the time.  We don't have to go back until he's two months old! Oh, and the best news of all is that I don't have to wake him to eat anymore!!!!  I don't know if that will change how many times I have to get up at night, but I sure am happy I don't have to set my alarm.

We also had our first solo outing to Kohls and Walmart today.  He slept the whole time except when we were coming home.  I was happy that I made it through.  It's a little intimidating-hopefully it gets easier.  It is so hot out there, so I'm happy to stay home.

Growing!

Zane is really amazing.  It is really cool to watch him grow.  I think sometimes its hard to see him changing because we are with him all the time.  But, I definitely can tell he's getting stronger.  When I burp him on my shoulder, he can now lift his head up!  It used to bob a lot, but he's holding it steady longer.  Also, his little legs are pushing up when he's being burped or when his little feet are against something.

Here he is right now...I just had to pick him up even though he is asleep!

Squeaky clean!

I love how Zane smells after his bath!  The bath itself is not pleasant, but afterwards we have a baby smeared with baby lotion and sweet smelling hair!

Snoozing away!

Aren't they sweet?  I wish I could join them right now just from looking at this picture!

Ready for the High Seas!

I was looking in Zane's closet and found this outfit that he hadn't worn yet!  I had it in the three month section, but when I looked at it I thought he could fit in it.  And sure enough, our 2 week, 3 day old baby can!  The hat is way to big, but its cute! Jeff asked me if I was playing dress up with our boy...why, yes I am!  :-)

Sunday Afternoon

We both took naps!  Zane did really well in services again.  How can you go wrong with a baby that sleeps through it?!  I know it won't be like that always though.

Adventure!

Zane and I had our first adventure out all by ourselves today.  I had a doctors appointment so I decided I would be best to put him in the stroller so I could have my hands free.  It went great!  He didn't squall on the carride and did great in the stroller.  We even got to swing by the bank on the way home.  I was really glad to get home though.  That was enough of an outing for one day.  Oh, and my doctor said everything looked great!

Rainy day sleeping

So far, we've had 6.03 inches of rainfall here in the past 24 hours.  We are happy to be inside and snuggly today.  Zane sure does like sleeping on a rainy day!

I'll be the first to admit it...

I'm an inexperienced new mom.  I don't know everything and that's why I called the nurse this morning!  Yesterday, Zane had white drainage in his left eye and this morning it was yellow and all matted over.  Poor little guy couldn't see through the goop.  I thought he may have gotten it at church and that was probably going to be the last time anyone ever got to lay a finger on him.  Just kidding.  Sort of.  When the nurse finally called back, she said it sounded like a blocked tear duct, which come to find out is common among newborns.  So, after he wakes up from his nap, the poor little guy is going to have to surrender to me trying to gently rub the corner of his eye with a warm, wet, cloth.  I'm sure it will go exactly as I expect it with him flailing his little arms trying to get my hand away.  But, it's for his own good.  Oh, poor little thing.  I know it's just the beginning.  Other things are going to happen, but I sure don't want them to!  If I could have everything happen to me, that's going to happen to him, that would be just fine-I'd take it.

Sunday Worship

Today we took Zane to his first Sunday worship services.  He did such a great job!  We were both so nervous.  I was afraid he would squall, and afraid of all the germs that he might catch, but we managed through it and survived!
My two dapper fellows after services.  :-)

Look at that hair!

Zane has the longest hair I've ever seen on an infant!  I'm thinking of trimming the bottom so it's at least shorter than his collar!  I'm just not sure when I want to do it.  How long should I wait?  Has anyone else ever give a week old little baby a haircut?
Sweet boy!
Look at that hair!!

I had to take a picture of his little ear too.  :-)

He's a Champion!

Today Zane is 1 week old!  He had his first pediatricians appointment today and we were just beaming with pride over him.  He is almost up to his birth weight!  He weighs 9 pounds.  This is great because the doctor said they give them two weeks to get back to it.  He also is 21 1/2 inches long.  I can't remember his head measurement, but she said he was in the 58th percentile, which means average!

We also took him to the hospital to finish some testing and he did awesome with his heel poke!

Overall, we just had a great outing!

July 1, 2012-Three days old and going home!

All we had to do was sign a bunch of papers, and we got to take our little sweetie home!  The hospital staff was really a great experience, but we felt confident in being able to go home.  Here are some pictures of our beautiful boy!
