Zane Reading

Part of Zane's chore chart is reading to a family member every day.  At first he was pretty resistant, but it has gotten a little better.  In fact, he's found a series (thankfully) that he likes to read.  Henry and Mudge by Cynthia Rylant.  They are about a boy, his dog, and the adventures they have together.  Here he is with his first one finished.  We've since gone to the library and gotten 5 more.  Sometimes we share the reading which is good too.  Anything to keep him from losing what he learned in Kindergarten!

Library Day

We went to the library today and the kids did good-no crying, trying to participate, so as a fun thing afterwards, we have started going to HEB and I let them do some Buddy Bucks.  It's a machine where they can put in a HEB Buddy buck and a wheel spins and then it gives you a sticker.  The kids love it and both machines were working today, so they got to do it at the same time, which they loved.

Rachel gets so excited to hit the button to stop the wheel.  Whap, whap, whap!  :)

Mom came down last weekend and brought me some tiny strawberry plants that I am trying to nurse back to health.  The kids were right there to help me scoop dirt into the pot.

We had to go pick up something for Daddy from Home Depot.  Just give my kids brochures while we wait and they'll be fine.

And then there was this nice moment yesterday where they got along and read their books together.  That makes me happy.

I tried to get Zane reading his Bible story-he was doing a really good job until I took the camera out.  So we read it together.

First Storytime!

Rachel had her first story time the other day and it was awesome because Zane came to be with us!  Most of the time he is too busy, but we lured him in with a good book.  :)  Thanks Grandma Janie for getting some photos of a special time.

Reading with Daddy

Zane had lots of books for Daddy to read yesterday.  Jeff of course, was happy to read with him.

And when Daddy couldn't read anymore, Zane decided he could read to Daddy!  I think this video is hilarious!

Reading with Grandma D

I think I mentioned that Zane could "read" some parts of a book (he actually has them memorized), but I didn't realize how much he knew.  Grandma D read quite a bit with him and would almost always stop before the end of the phrase and Zane would, to my surprise, fill in the end.  I couldn't believe it.  It is just so neat to him growing and learning.

I have been having trouble uploading my videos and tonight, my loving and patient husband, Jeff, helped me learn something new!  I started uploading my videos to youtube and then learned how to embed them in my blog.  The videos are unlisted, so the only way that you will be able to see them is to follow the link on my blog.  I think it works great.  The only thing I am not thrilled about is the pictures that come up after the video has played.  These are links to other videos on youtube, not Zane videos.  If you would like to view the Zane video again, just click on the arrow that goes around in a circle (repeat) and it will play it again, or you can just refresh your page to get it back the way it was originally.  The good news is that people with apple products will be able to view them on their iphone or ipad!  (I'll take payment in diapers!--just kidding)  If you have any concerns, please let me know.

Reading with Zane

One video is Zane picking out a book and the second video is his Daddy reading with him.  I couldn't stop laughing.  It was so funny.  Zane still loves to read books.  He also has an animal picture book that someone gave him that has tons of animals on each page that are labeled.  He goes "uh", and we have to say what it is.  And it goes on and on and on...point, "uh", point to another "uh"....  :)

Little Buddy

It is so hard to get pictures of Zane sitting still these days, so I've started doing more and more video, but I really wanted to try and just take some pictures.  These are a couple I got.  Most of them were blurry-imagine that!  :-)

 Also, Jeff weighed him today on the scale and he weighs 24 pounds!  We thought he was getting heavier and he certainly is!

The Boy Loves to Read!

I thought Zane was so cute as he sat there on his knees reading his books.  Then he found a magazine he wanted to read!

Because you're never too young to know Jesus

I recently purchased some board books for Zane that are about the Bible.  I am so happy with them!  One is about Noah's Ark.  It's actually the song, so you sing it instead of just reading the words.  Another two are by Debby Anderson-Jesus is With Me and Jesus Loves the Little Children.  Those are also ones that are sung.  And the last two are stories that Jesus told.  One is about the lost sheep and the other is about the prodigal son.  Both are very accurate and at the end tell us how we can apply it in our lives.  The title is on the back of the last two books that are published by Christian Focus Publications.   I don't know which religious group this company is affiliated with, if any, but I do like these little kids books. 

Zane loves to read books and has become very good at turning pages!  I hope he continues to develop a love for reading and for God's Word.

Reading before Nap time

Zane gets fussy about the same time every morning.  Usually 9:15.  It starts off as a little whine and is pretty much constant until you pick him up.  He loves cuddles especially when he's tired.  We've started a little routine where I ready him four or five books before he goes to sleep for his morning nap.  Jeff took a picture of us and then I took them as our reading time progressed.  :-)  Zane loves being held and read to and is usually pretty content during this time.  I mean, what can beat cuddles with mama, a blanket, and a thumb to suck on?

I really love my reading time with Zane.  It is so much fun to read books to him and know that he is soaking in every word and picture.  For Christmas he got four new books and I enjoyed reading them as much as he enjoyed listening.
