Texas History

Since I was raised in North Dakota, I am not very familiar with Texas history.  On Saturday, we drove to Houston with my mother and father-in-law and I was able to learn more about the Battle at San Jacinto, where Texas (Sam Houston) defeated Santa Anna.  Maybe someday we will visit Goliad, revisit the Alamo, and maybe some other places where Texas history took place.

Sightseers on a nice rainy day.
View from 490 feet on the observation deck.

Lots of water.

Sideview of the monument.  It is taller than the Washington Monument by 15 feet.

All of the stones used for the monument had lots and lots of shell fossils in them.

Other side.  I image that it would have been hard to fight the battle in this swampy area.  The battle itself only lasted 20 minutes.
