Day 12-Firehouse, Snowplow Trains, and a Sawmill!

We drove a short distance over to Breckenridge today and had a great time at several different museums!  We started out at the Red, White, and Blue fire museum which was closed, but Jeff went right across the side street to the firehouse that is currently operating and asked them for a tour.  We got a tour from a real fireman, Josh, and after we saw the museum, we got to go across the street to the operating firehouse!  And guess what?  They got a call while Zane was sitting in the fire engine!  He had to get out so we could get out of the way!  The fireman giving us the tour didn't have to go with because he was on the ambulance rotation today.  It was pretty cool.  For the first time in months, the kids aren't playing star wars, they are playing firefighters!

The kids are by a restored ladder truck that was found taken apart in someone's attic.  The amazing thing is that it wasn't pulled by horses or mules but by firemen.

Old hose cart!

Zane's first time in a fire engine ladder truck.  He didn't get to sit long-the alarm went off!

Off they go!

This was so cool.  Hoses attached to the exhaust pipe that turn on to suck the exhaust out of the bay area where the trucks are.  When the bay doors go up, the engines have started and the hoses get to work. As the truck drives off, the hose detaches.  Pretty nifty.  A female firefighter told us that they are making alot of changes for the safety of the firefighters.

The ambulance was still there so they got a tour of that instead.

Lots of tools in the ambulance, including thermal camera to help look for people or for where the fire is.

Operating traffic batons.

This station had two fire poles!  They sleep up on the third floor so there are two levels of poles.  The lady said that they are no longer making fire poles, but slides!  Whee!

Happy with their new fire hats!
After this we went to the snowplow train museum.  It was neat too.  Outside with a park nearby!  Pretty cool!  We ate our lunch there.

Snow plow on front of the engine!

Rotary Snowplow!  It was massive!

It was hard for them to eat their lunch because the fire alarm (on daddy's phone) kept going off and they had to put of sooo many fires!

She will always be my beautiful snack girl.

On our way to our next stop!

We went to a free sawmill museum outside of Breckenridge next!  It was cool because they had brochures to get and they had equipment numbered so you could do a self guided tour.  This stuff was old!

Big blade!

Picture for Grandad-they used an old tractor engine to operate part of this sawmill.

After this we drove up just a little ways toward Boreas Pass, but the road was closed to cars and trucks.  But we had our trusty walking legs so off we went.  We saw some very beautiful views.

Enjoy your day!
