Day 12-Owl Creek Crossing and Fishing

The road today was like a highway, laid out for us to drive on.  Wide, wonderful, and actually being worked on with an excavator, grader, water truck, who knows what else, but it was the nicest we've been on.  We made our way to Ridgway and on to Owl Creek Pass, elevation over 10,000 ft.  It was a beautiful drive.  What I noticed were the mountains full of aspens with a few coniferous trees poking out occasionally.  We saw some very big birds that we don't know what were and a huge buck deer on the way back to town.
Here are some pretty pictures:

The mountains look like a saw blade.

The pictures don't come out quite like I see them.  It is very hazy right now due to wildfires.
We tried to find Vista Point on the way up, but somehow didn't get to it.  What we did get to was a trail with what we think were fresh bear droppings.  A huge pile, then on up the trail, a smaller-still huge pile-and still further more droppings.  We decided then to turn around and were singing our hearts out at the top of our lungs.  IN THE BEGINNING GOD MADE THE SEAS, AND THE FOREST FILLED WITH TREES, AND THE MOUNTAINS UP SO HIGH, AND AT THE TOP HE PLACED THE SKY.  HIP-HIP-HIP-HIPPOPOTAMUS, HIP-HIP-HIP HIPPOPOTAMUS-HIP-HIP-HOORAY GOD MADE ALL OF US.  This is actually Rachel's theme song for the two weeks we've been here.  She has been singing it because of the mountains, but today it dawned on her that there were forests filled with trees all around too!

So, this next picture is gross, but Jeff took the picture and you can see how big it was and why we think it was from a bear.
Road work!

I just looked this up and think it may be a female greater sage grouse.

This one seems to be a little fuzzy, but the other one I can't see Zane!

It was chilly today!!!

Lunch spot!  View of Silver Jack Reservoir.

I can't think of a time when I've been to a mountain lake and today, we went!  We saw Silver Jack Resevoiur (super low), Rowdy Lake-pretty brown, and we also went to Beaver Lake which had ducks.  The kids fished in the last two.

This girl really likes to fish.

We got sprinkled on, but as you can see it didn't stop the fun the kids were having!

On to Beaver Lake!  No beavers seen.

We tried something different for bait.  Grasshoppers!  Still didn't catch anything, but the kids had a great time! One more day of fun tomorrow and then we hit the road!
