Potty Training Edition

With the light at the end of the tunnel at the new house, I started to think about the beautiful new carpet and dreaded potty training that was in the future for Zane.  I decided it would be better to leave puddles around the old house than puddles on the new carpet.  So, Monday I started potty training.  I had read several blogs on potty training in three days and thought that if it worked it would be worth it.  But I doubted it would work and thought I'd have to quit and try again in 6 weeks because I didn't really know if Zane was ready.  The link to the blog I read is here.

Oh I was dreading this so much, but Monday came and I was determined to at least try.  The blog said to put them in underpants and set the timer every 15 minutes.  Let me tell you, it was miserable.  Absolutely miserable.  It was like a constant stream of tinkle and none of it made it into the potty!  I had decided that if he tried, he got a sticker, and if he actually did it, he got some chocolate chips.  After absolutely no successes, he finally tooted accidentally in the potty and I decided that warranted chocolate chips.  And we cheered and cheered and oh boy it was great.  I'm pretty sure we went the whole day with no successes but it finally dawned on me that he was starting to have alarm on his face after he would wet his underpants!  And when I asked him if he was wet he would say yes!  Well, that was progress.  He was at least understanding that he was wetting himself.

Tuesday also had little to no successes, but made progress because he started holding his tinkle!  We still had accidents but he was dry a lot longer in between.  I believe Tuesday had a whopping total of one success.  And we made the most out of that success.  I was sure he wasn't getting it and was just ready to quit, but since the blog said to do it three days, I didn't want to not follow instructions.  I am not a quitter.  But I sure wanted to be.

Wednesday I think we had three successes!  And he woke up dry from his nap.  Well, after those success, I decided I better keep at it.  He went to Bible class in a diaper, but was dry.

Thursday we had a big outing to Walmart and I put a towel over his cart cover for him to sit on, but he made it!  No accidents!  I'm pretty sure we had an accident in the morning, but I can't remember.

Friday Jeff was out of town and I decided I would work at the new house some.  Well, I had to put a diaper on him because I was so afraid he would have an accident.  But we kept going to the bathroom and he stayed dry and had two successes at the new house.  It was wonderful.

Saturday we had no accidents in the morning.  For the first time he went without a diaper during rest time. And that was a mistake.  But, when I went to get him, he informed me that he was wet!  Again, that's progress.  But, I decided that I didn't like cleaning everything and he will wear a diaper or pullups until he's dry for maybe a month straight.

Sunday I was nervous again about going to church, so he wore a diaper.  I'm pretty sure he was dry and he went tinkle when we got home!  Since Sunday night service is only an hour, he wore underpants and no accidents!  He also went tinkle when we got home.  He is getting better about going even when he says he doesn't have to go.  We still need to go number 2 in the potty, but I'm feeling confident that we will get there.

The setup.
Just for my reference, potty trained at 2 years, 3 months.
