Backyard Surprises

This afternoon while Zane was napping, I took the monitor outside and watered our potted plants and filled our bird bath.  I decided to water some of our other flowers and noticed that there were red dots in our orange tree.  Jeff had told me about this before, but I hadn't checked it out.  They were tomatoes!  We have one plant that must have been planted by a bird and is growing under our orange tree.  It is so spindly, but really really tall!  It winds up in the orange tree and is taller than me!

I also noticed that one small branch was broken on our orange tree, so I cut off the rest of the way and cut the oranges to see what they were producing.  Last year, we had tons of oranges, but they were not good on the inside.  I was really happy to see that the first one I cut into was nice and juicy with good fruit.  I was disappointed on the next too.  It seems that they are more pithy and don't have as much good fruit.  We've decided that if the fruit doesn't make, it's off with it's head!  I really hope it produces good fruit!  I would love to have fresh oranges.
