Day 6 of Vacation

We had a beautiful drive up to the near ghost town of Montezuma!   Wow, beautiful views of the snake river.

This was Rachel's view.  haha.

And Zane's view.  They were happy though!

All trails were closed!
Welcome to Montezuma!  Such a cool sign!
The town itself looked really rough.  Dirt roads, no grocery store, no businesses, but there was a church building.  Some nice houses and others that were made of plywood.  I am just amazed that people live there.  We saw quite a few bikers.  They would work really hard getting up there, then fly down the mountain at top speed.

A welcoming sight as we entered town, wouldn't you say?

And a matching throne on the other side of the driveway.

Small houses

Stop signs in a barrel

We started down a trail after leaving Montezuma headed to Peru Creek, but I chickened out because of a bear sign, so we will go back with our bear spray soon.

Next, back to Loveland Pass!  Turns out this was the highlight of our day!  So cool!  Jeff said it's the most fun he's had in a long time!

Jeff had to go back down and get Zane's big jacket.  It was really cold and windy on top!

We got to see several snow boarders go down.  Pretty neat.  Jeff asked how they got back up and the guy said they hitched a ride with someone.  I guess snowboarders help snowboarders.
We went back to the snow spot where we went the first time, but went across the road.  It was awesome!
 Snow angels!

Well...

Sometimes we flop.

Zane went so high up on the mountain.  He wanted to go all the way to the top and Jeff said in a couple years he'll do it.

We had such a fun time today.  Zane was so exhausted that when we got home he went to bed.  I tried to get him up to drink, but he just went back to bed until supper.  He was tuckered out and didn't even have the energy to go to the pool!  Now that's tired.  He ate good and drank some gaterade and water, so I was happy with that.  :)  What a great day.

Sledding Videos!!!!

Day 5 of Vacation!

Today was a very restful day.  It was wonderful!  Everyone was happy, both kids were healthy, and Jeff got a good long nap in the afternoon while the kids played.

This morning we had to make a Walmart run to get Jeff some medicine and decided to look for souvenirs for the kids (they had money to spend!) and for snow pants.  I didn't see any snow pants so I asked a worker and it happened that she was so helpful.  She had some in the back that would probably fit Rachel, but none for Zane.  I couldn't believe that she would go dig around in the back for them, but she did and here she came.  They were be perfect and were on clearance for only $7.00!  Score!  Zane and Rachel bought matching Colorado cups and toys!
They really have to step high to get in the truck!
 Our beautiful drive to Walmart!

There is a road that goes on top of the Dillon Reservoir Dam.  It was really neat.
Sometimes the road is closed.

Water on one side, baseball fields on the other!

Letting water out of the dam.

Netting for falling rocks.
We went to a ski place next door that was having a 40% off sale.  Except that the pants were 69.00 or 99.00 to begin with.  Hmmm.  I know, thrift stores!  I went a couple and found Zane a pair, texted Jeff because he had them in the car, and they came in and Zane tried them on and they fit!  $5.00! Another score! And the money supported a good cause!  We are really happy we found bargains since we won't be using them very long.
New Star Wars lego set for Rachey!

New water gun for Zane!  Do you think we should let him shoot water off the balcony?  :)

My snack girl!  Organization is key!
Our pretty girl is feeling much better today.
This afternoon we went to the pool!  It's Zane's favorite thing.  It was alot of fun.  Tomorrow we will bring pennies and they can practice diving and getting them.

My dry ice worked so well in the coolers that my meatballs and sauce didn't unthaw at all today.  I took them out of the freezer yesterday afternoon/evening and they were still frozen solid as a rock at supper time today.  We had to have chicken nuggets instead.  Maybe tomorrow we will have meatballs?  Who knows!  I decided I better take the enchiladas out to start thawing and maybe we can have them two days from now!  haha
Books before bedtime!  Rachel enjoyed reading Pete the Cat stories-she got a large collection of Pete the Cat books in one volume and then Zane wanted to read this Curious George book about rainbows.  And funny thing, it talked about a moose being possibly more dangerous than a bear!  I just thought it was cool how we had seen one and now they read about one!

Until next time!

Day 4, June 4

We had a beautiful day in the mountains right by Loveland Pass today!  It isn't very far from our condo, maybe 10 minutes.  We got out and played a long time in the snow.  It was really deep in places and we would sink down in it.  I had forgotten that about snow, but it used to happen alot in ND.  You try to tread lightly but then whamp, down you go!  :)  The kids got a kick out of that.  It was really a fun experience seeing the kids in amazement at the amount of snow.  Their pants got soaked and so they got to ride back to town with no pants and heater running full blast!
Baby Rach got acute altitude sickness when we got back, poor thing.  She seemed to perk up after and ate lunch and us girls rested and did a puzzle, while Zane and Daddy went and swam in the pool.

This ski lodge is still open on the weekends!  The mountains around it still had plenty of snow.

Pretty nice road going up.

We went for a walk before supper and she was also doing fine, but then started to not feel well again and went to bed before she could eat supper.  I did get her to take some tylenol, so that was good and hope it helped her.  Hopefully she will be her perky self tomorrow.

Moose track!  Zane found a trail he wanted to go down, so okay, we went.  We started going through thick brush and Jeff took the lead and then came to moose droppings and we turned around!!!

Mrs. Mallard!  Rachey loved her!

Looking at the duck.

Another one!

Rachey wanted her picture with it.  It's behind her head.  :)

Fierce face!

Making a little dam with their boots.

Snake river-there are many bridges that cross it and it's fun to go over them.

Jeff volunteered to cook our hamburgers!  Thanks Jeff!

Hugs from a Sweetie.  Hope she feels better tomorrow.
