Baking Bloopers

Today we are deviating from our regular pictures of cute kids because well, sometimes you just have to laugh and make fun of your own mistakes.  Yesterday Jeff was too kind and offered to take the kids outside while I cooked supper in peace and quiet.  I took him up on his offer because I was going to try once again to make homemade tortillas.  You know, shave a little bit more off the ol' grocery bill.  I've tried them before, and they've not turned out, but hey, I'm not a quitter, so I decided I would try again and this time they would be perfect!  All the pictures on pinterest show lovely tortillas that are just a breeze to make.  Yeah, you can see where this is going.

An hour and a half later I served supper, pretty much exhausted, okay not really, but it took so long- with the kitchen looking like a flour hurricane went through it.  It smelled like burnt flour and still had raw dough stuck to wax paper that refused to come off.  A disaster!!!  I hold all tortilla makers in high regard now because I am throwing in the towel!  Tortilla making is not for me.  Oh and since some of them turned out a little towards the end, I decided I would have one with butter and honey before bed.  So I heated it up but by the time I put my butter and honey on it, it was like trying to chew hard...something not quite as tough as leather.  :)

The "Peekaboo, I see through you," tortilla.

The "What shape is this?," tortilla.

The "I give up on you," tortilla.

And finally, the "I'm trying to be like Oklahoma", tortilla.
There you have it!  Baking Bloopers, episode 1!  We will be back to our regularly scheduled blog posting of cute kids soon!

Rain Means Muddy Puddles

Zane gets so excited when it rains really good because he wants to go out and look for muddy puddles.  He was a little disappointed at first glance at the muddy puddle we had, but it didn't take him long to discover that it got bigger the more he dug in it!  I think Rachel got dirtier than Zane.  She didn't have a nice digger to sit on, so she had to make due with what she had.  :)  They sure had a good time!

Hee hee-she got stuck twice in the mud and I had to pull her out!  And one of her boots was full of mud!

Filthy, I say! Filthy!

Blueberry Face!

Zane's been sick and slept in today, so I ate breakfast alone with this pretty girl-prettiest girl in the world, I'd say!  :) :) :)

It's been surprising how much she's been eating, she is definitely growing!

Growing a Garden and a Bird!

The garden is lulling a little with the green beans and squash, but I gave it a good dose of miracle grow, so I'm hoping that perks things up!  I did pick one squash today and have two zucchinis on the plants.  One should be ready for picking tomorrow.  And the big news is we have a pumpkin growing!  I am still hoping for some more because the pumpkin plants are really blooming right now.  So far we are holding steady with five butternut squash.  I will be extremely happy if all five ripen.  They are really growing!

We have/had a little dovie bird taking refuge in our garden.  I saw him a couple days ago and the next day, but didn't see him when I went out today.  I hope he's grown big enough to fly off.
Last night after Jeff mowed, I had to help him get back to the cover of the big leaves.

Hi little fellow!

This was the first time I saw him.

Our pumpkin!
Almost as long as my hand!

Library Time

Ah, we finally made it back to the library!  Seems like when we take a break from it, it's like 6 weeks or so!   Zane hid when the scarves and bubbles were happening, but actually talked in front of the whole group as Ms. Yvonne was getting ready to read a story.  He had to tell her about his Big Wheel and I do believe that some people clapped for him when he was done explaining about him pedaling.  :)  That was a great part.  :)  I don't think they were clapping because he was done, but that he did a good job.

Rachel went to the middle with me when the bubbles came on.  She sure loves them and we pop, pop, popped them!

Oh boy!

Built in pacifiers!  Any ideas on how to get them to quit?

Rachel did really great with her puzzle!

Zane's puzzle took two seconds.  He's a big boy.  :)

Homemade Crackers 2

I tried crackers again today because I just couldn't get them out of my head and tried a different recipe and new seasoning.  I like the way they turned out, except that they need more seasoning.

New Seasoning
End result.  I liked these better because they have baking powder in them which makes them airy.
Satisfied customer!
Here is the link to the recipe.

Zane Says

Tonight Zane went to see what was on his plate for supper.  Sloppy Jo and french fries for when he finished his sandwich.  "This is magnificent!"-Zane

The other day he went to eat at our neighbors house and he was telling me all about what he ate when he got home.  "They had bbq chicken, and oranges, and apples, and..(more food, which made me wish I had eaten there too), and it was so good and I loved it!-Zane

Zane tells me he loves me more than I'll ever know.  And he asks me how much I love him.  This ------much, I say, stretching out my arms.  He holds his hands about four inches apart and says, I love you this-much.  How come?, I ask?  Because I'm little!

I was tucking Zane in bed the other night and I usually sing one or two songs.  I was trying to think of a song, so I was looking off toward his window and he said, are you asking Jesus what song He wants you to sing?  No, I'm just thinking.  So then I ask him what song and he suggests Power in the Blood.  After I was done singing, he said, that was Jesus' request.  :) :) :)
