On Saturday we took a drive to Palacios, the City by the Sea. It was nice! Zane and I had been there before, but this time, Jeff went with us. I'm sure he's been there many times before. We ate at a great Dairy Queen there and walked along the seawall.
I learned something about feeding seagulls. You don't want to throw the crackers up over your head. It's like attack of the seagulls.
Created for family and friends since we are scattered so far apart, but still remain close at heart!

So Long Waffle Maker!
We had a good run with our awesome waffle maker, until this morning. It was really scary business. I had just poured some waffle batter into the iron and I heard a zzzzz, pop! I looked and the back was ON FIRE! It was so scary! I unplugged it and blew. The fire went out, thankfully. So we are now in the market for a brand new waffle maker. We do not want another fire hazard in our kitchen! We also thought that a fire extinguisher was under the kitchen sink, but it isn't! We might need to get one of those too.

Our Friday
Zane started off the day with two scrambled eggs and ketchup. He has a hard time waiting in the mornings for his breakfast, so this morning, I put him on the counter so he could watch his eggs cook. He thought it was great.
This afternoon, we went to a park that had baby swings! I have been wanting Zane to be able to swing for some time, but most of the parks just have regular swings. This park was really neat and was mostly designed for toddlers. Most of the kids there were around Zane's age or a little older. I think Zane liked it a lot.

Our Wonderful Day
It definitely makes a difference when the sun comes out. We had a great day today. It started with a trip to the library! Zane was so excited. He did great too and participated and even sat at the librarians' lap! He likes Miss Yvonne.
After Zane's nap, we ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches while talking to Daddy on the phone while he was going to another work site in Houston. Zane loved holding the phone. When we got done, we went outside to enjoy the sunshine. We pulled weeds in the grass and watched for airplanes! Amazingly we saw 5 airplanes and 1 helicopter! Zane is very good at hearing them.
Today while outside, Zane picked some little red flowers in my flower bed. We sang a song just like bible class-The Flowers Are Gently Nodding-and then we had to sniff them, alot, and then I asked him, Who made the flowers? And he said, "Ga." :)

Learning All The Time
Zane is really starting to talk and respond. It is just so fun and really amazing to me. Just all of the sudden he starts doing/saying things. It's really amazing how that works. It might be the neatest thing yet in parenting.
Yesterday, just yesterday he starting answering yes! to questions. It started off in the morning. When I get him up, we usually rock and snuggle and hug. I asked him, "Do you like hugs?" A little voice said, "yes." Oh, melt my heart into a puddle. You can bet he got lots of hugs and pats and rocks. Just throughout the day, I'd ask him questions and he'd answer yes! He was already answering no-alot, but it was just so cool to hear him answer for himself. This morning I asked him, "Are you drinking your milk?" "Yes!," he said, as he reached for his cup. It shouldn't be surprising, I guess, but it is.
Here he is playing with his dump truck.
This morning, I got out a book he hasn't read in weeks. It's called Opposites, by Sandra Boynton. I started reading and we got to the page that has a snail and he said slow. I was like, what? You're kidding me. So, I read the page and sure enough, when we got to the snail, he said "slow." So we kept reading it and he would put the correct words in there without being told, and I went to check the muffins and had it opened to the page that says hot, cold, and he said it without me at all! I know that is how kids start reading, by memorizing, but I just didn't know when it was going to happen. My mom even told me about us learning to "read" before we were two, but I just for some reason, didn't think Zane was ready. I was really shocked and oh so proud.
Another thing that Zane did yesterday was count to four. Just last week he could count to three, but I didn't know how long it would take to add on to that. Well, he can do it! All by himself.
He is now 20 months old. This year has gone so much faster than the first. In just four short months, he will be 2!
I know this sounds like a braggy post, and I don't mean it to be. If you think that, just remember that this is a journal and record for me. :) And I am sooo proud of him. He is just a blessing and a joy.
Guess how many chocolate chips it took to make this mess? One! |

Zane loved being on Jeff's head and looking out the window. |

Fun Weekend
We took a spontaneous weekend trip to see Zane's grandparents (Jeff's side.) We had beautiful weather which resulted in a really fun time outside. Zane got to see many bar-um, bar-ums, and even sat on them. :) He was in little boy heaven! He also had a wonderful time with Grandma blowing bubbles.
Enjoy the pictures! I will try and post videos soon.
