We had a vacation last week and went to Possum Kingdom State Park which is west of Fort worth! We had a great trip up there with two awesome kids and a great driver. We were pulling a boat that we borrowed from Jeff's dad and mom and I don't know how he drove it for 8 hours up there! But we made it safely there and back and were really glad about that.
Day 1.
We left about 9:30 and got here about 5:15, 15 minutes after the office closed but they said we could check in the next morning. The kids did great in the car. Both took naps and Zane got to watch videos on the iPad which was soooo helpful. We made a stop in Lampasas for lunch and one in Comanche for gas and bathroom breaks. Actually two there because we used the public library for our bathroom stop. Was great. We found gas for 1.71! That's really been helpful on this trip. The kids literally played in the dirt while we unpacked. I made a pizza and we ate, then took a walk down to the boat slips to check out where we will park our borrowed boat in the morning. We saw huge carp under the docks. I thought Zane might be scared, but he liked them and Rachel did too. Rachel and Zane then swung on the swings and Zane did great getting pushed by Dada. I sat Rachel on my lap and she liked swinging a little until I swung higher and then she didn't want to do it at all. Zane had his first shower and loved it. He did not want to get out and Rachel took a bath in the kitchen sink. It was a great day.
He wanted all his mimis. He was a sweaty boy when he got out of his seat at lunch.
Happy with her water bottle and pacifier!
Here we go!
Reading books. She got so happy when I'd give her a new toy.
She liked the pigs best.
The songbook came with us.
Yay construction in Lockhart! I don't think Dada had the same enthusiasm as Zane did!
Rejoicing from the front seat!
Made a great lunch stop.
Pretty country. If you squint you can see white windmills in the background.
John Deere
Stretching her legs in the front seat while Dada gets gas.
Another John Deere!
Loving the iPad.
World's Biggest Wheelbarrow...of all things. :)
Made it!
Here we go! Looking around!
Exploring the park.
Lots of carp. It would have been a nightmare for me to fall in!
Swinging like a big boy!
Showing Zane how it's done!
Ready for bed!
Day 2. The kids slept pretty good, but Zane woke up once screaming. I think he just didn't know where he was. I went in but it didn't last, so Dada was the one to make it all better. When everyone got up we had sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits that I'd made ahead of time. Rachey had haha, I almost wrote canned catfood, but no, she had store baby food. She probably got some biscuit too. We needed to put the boat in the water, so we drove over to the boat ramp, Jeff launched the boat, and then I got to drive the trailer back to the parking lot. It probably wasn't even a mile, but I am very much more appreciative of Jeff driving all the way up there with it. There are so many things to look out for. While we were sitting there waiting for Jeff to finish tying up the boat a park Ranger came over and wrote down our information after I told him we were headed to the headquarters to check in. He was very friendly, but on the paper it said we needed to check in by 9 am. It was 8:55. So, instead of going back to the cabin to drop us off, we all went together. Jeff got us checked in and paid for and then we got ready for our first boat ride! It was exciting! Jeff found out that we were 14 miles from the sights. The cliffs were awesome and the water was so deep-almost 100 feet deep. We saw beautiful sights and then decided to stop for lunch. That's when we had our first and only casuality. It was my idea to put an umbrella up and the wind just took it up and away! By the time Jeff got the anchor up, it had plum sunk! Never to be seen again. :) Zane was very sad about that.
We got back to the cabin and the kids took a late nap. They didn't get up until 5 or 6. Then we made hamburgers and hotdogs! I think Zane ate a hotdog every day we were there. He loved them. Jeff made a great fire-enough that it would last us for after the kids were in bed. So we snuck back out and roasted marshmellows. Unfortuanately I had forgotten the graham crackers. So, Jeff created something new which is even more delicious. It's called a Chocolate Stuffed Campfire Marshmellow and boy is it good. You roast the marshmellow and then put a square of hershey bar in it when you take it off the stick. So delicious.
Zane liked taking pictures.
Zane's fingers and Dada.
Zane's level. haha!
Boat slips. We were in Cabin 1 and had boat slip 3.
Pretty pretty day!
Mansions were all along the cliffs.
Hell's Gate. Really pretty!
Not a great picture, but stairs goes all the way down to the boat.
And some had elevators. I know, elevators!
hahahahaha That is some face.
The BEST part of the boat ride according to Zane-construction!!!
My and Buddy!!!
Lunch time!
We went into a harbor and saw huge beautiful boats.
Wonderful campfire!
Yumminess!!!
Day 3. We got up and had biscuits again and then went out on a boat ride again. We discovered that Rachel would rather go fast than slow! But she was a little fussy so after a while, Zane and Dada dropped us off and we went back to the cabin to rest. Zane and Dad went and caught some perch! 5 perch actually.
After Rachel woke up, our plan was to go to a swimming beach nearby in the boat and eat lunch, but since I already had it done, we just ate at the cabin. Then off we went! The kids had so much fun! And we did too! We took turns swimming! Jeff brought our flippers and used them to find treasures that other people had dropped. They included some goggles, a plastic pink squid (found Thursday) and lots of beer cans. Rachel loved being in the water and Zane did as long as he was with Dada. It was a little scary because Zane just stared walking out into the water (Dad was with him) and he just kept walking until he couldn't reach! We had to always keep a close eye on them. They had so much fun digging in the sand. And we did too! I liked it because it wasn't salty water!
The kids took great naps and then we got up and had a lazy evening. We played plastic horeshoes, dug in the dirt, and ate hamburgers/hotdog again. So fun. Everyone was very tired.
Rachey got up way before Zane so she and I went for a walk while Dada and Zane slept! I wanted to go on the hiking trail, but it was too rough for the stroller.
Biggest spider I've ever seen.
Cutest girl in the world drinking her milk.
Snuggling with Zane after their naps.
Trunks on and ready to go swimming!!!
Ready to go swimming!
Sandy Beach Swimming area!
Cutest kids ever!!!
Watching the carp after swimming!
Digging while the fire is getting ready for supper!
Playing with tennis balls. One got stuck up and then another got stuck up!
Cuties!!!
Day 4. We went back to Sandy Beach today! The water was several degrees cooler because we were there earlier. But we still had so much fun! Zane did not want to leave it at all! In fact, he didn't want to leave Possum Kingdom! But he felt better about going home when I told him that his lawnmower and weedeater were there. haha.
Lots of pictures of Rachel because Zane was still napping.
I built this fire!! I had a great teacher! Jeff builds great fires!
Very tired girl!
Day 5:
Off to home we go! We had a great time!
Picnic in the car! No time for stops! We wanted to get home!
Entertainment on the way home!
