Scripture Book

I made Zane his first scripture book today!  I would have liked it to look more professional, but I think it will work just fine for what I want to use it for.  I chose the verses out of a list that I made here.

Zane's first scripture book.  About 5"x5".

It's a beauty!

Well, I've got to tell you, I can grow green beans and yellow squash, but cantaloupes leave something to be desired.  We only were able to pick two this year because the other three got overripe and ruined.  I felt really bad about that.  We just had five because of our limited space.  But, the good news is, Jeff picked this one yesterday and it is really tasty!  Not as wonderful as my father-in-law's for sure, but we were happy with it.  I'm going to try again next year!
Actually round!  The other was egg shaped.

Here we are...at 40 weeks!

Today is our due date for baby Zane!  I think he didn't receive the memo though.  :-)  He is still squirming around in my tummy.  Doesn't he know that he can stretch and have all the room he wants in the outside world?!  Jeff and I drove past our hospital on the way to church and we decided we should just go in and let them know that "we'd like our baby please!"
40 weeks!
So, hopefully, it's anytime.  But, I do have another appointment this coming Wednesday so we'll see how things are progressing again.

A special thanks goes out to Jeff for putting up with me and painting my toenails!  I love you!

Happy due date Zane Abel!  As of now, you have 3 hours and 35 minutes to make your appearance and be on time!  :)  Fingers crossed everyone!  :-)

Practicing for Daddyhood!

Jeff had the afternoon off and we got to go shopping at Target!  We found this cool stroller and decided that it would be just right for Zane to take walks in.  We came home and Jeff put it together!  I'm so thankful I'm not going to be a single mom-he is so handy and helpful and I like watching instead of doing!  :-)
We just need a baby to go in it!  :-)

Taggie Blanket

I've been wanting to make one of these for a while and finally did it yesterday.  It was so much fun.  :)  My original intent was to make Zane a blanket just like his daddy's, but I ran out of fabric so I decided that he could have a mini blanket made out of the scraps.  I used scrap flannel for the filling also to make it soft, but not really fluffy.  Hopefully when he's teething, he'll enjoy chomping down on the tags!

Not perfect, but hopefully Zane won't notice!  :-)

We had a birthday boy at our house!

We celebrated Jeff's birthday last week!  Unfortunately, he was gone on his birthday with work, but we did get to meet for dinner at a seafood restaurant, and then we celebrated with roast and the fixings and chocolate meringue pie when he got home!

For his present, I decided it was time that he had his own quilt!  I'm embarrassed that we've been married 2 1/2 years and I hadn't made him one yet.  I've been wanting to make him one for Christmas, but I would think of it too late and not have enough time to make it.  So, I believe with this one I started in March and only would work on it when he was out of town.  I found the online pattern here
Happy Birthday Jeff!

39 Weeks!!!!

We have made it to 39 weeks with Zane still snug as a bug!  I went to the doctor last week and had an ultrasound.  Zane is perfectly positioned for birth and everything looked great!  I have another appointment this Wednesday to check for further progress.

This is Jeff and I today after church services.  I just think the crepe myrtles are so pretty, so we took a picture in front of them.

Handsome Tie

I made Zane his first tie this morning!  I had trouble adjusting the length, so I need Jeff can help me out, but it was really fun and easy to make.  I found a great tutorial here for anyone else that wants to make one!

Backyard, Homemade Apple Pie

A really nice couple at church gave us a bag of apples from their backyard.   I didn't even know you could grow apples in South Texas!  I thought this was just citrus country.  They suggested using them for baby food, which is great, except I don't have any room in the freezer to store them.  So, the next best thing was an apple pie!
Cute little apples
Mmmm...smells so good!

Baby, Hurricane, or Both??

I am trying to get prepared for this wonderful baby to come, but since I don't really know what to expect, I'm not sure if I'm on the right track!!  Today, I went to the stores and stocked up on canned vegetables, soups, pasta, paper goods, etc so that I won't have to go to the store when Zane comes...at least for a while.  Of course, it's also hurricane season down here, so we're prepared for that now too!  Or maybe it will be a cute little bundle of a hurricane!!
The cashier was enthusiastic about double bagging!  Really!
Me in my "fancypants" as Jeff calls them!  :-)

Gorgeousness

We had a thunderstorm come through earlier tonight and we saw this sight out the window afterwards.  I haven't seen a rainbow in a long time and thought it was so pretty.  I couldn't fit the whole rainbow in the picture, but it looked like it touched the ground on both sides.

Finally...Watermelon Size!

I can't believe Zane started out the size of a grain of rice when we first saw him to now being the size of a small watermelon!  Yippee!!
37 1/2 weeks!

Feeding the Freezer

It's been on my mind lately to stock our freezer so we don't have to worry about cooking when Zane comes.  So far, I have Santa Fe chicken, Red Beans (will have to cook the rice), baked spaghetti, a double recipe of chili joes, rice crispies, Texas sheet cake, cookie dough balls, banana bread, and tonight I will add enchilada casserole.  There is more that I'd like to put in there, but I guess I'm doing it a little at a time.  But I am happy because they are individual portions, so we can just take out what we need at the moment.  I do need to find a good way of organizing them.  I'm thinking about using the freezer bags that were mentioned in an earlier post and making a bag for desserts, main dishes, and maybe lunch stuff?  I'm not sure.  But it would help to get somewhat organized, so we aren't just rummaging through all the squares of wrapped aluminum food!
